Workington Reds joint-manager Dave Hewson has revealed the club are searching for new blood after losing two key players this week.

The club lost striker Tom Kilifin earlier this week, who asked to leave, and midfielder Phil McLuckie also announced his retirement, aged 27.

The departure of Kilifin leaves Reds with just two recognised strikers but Hewson has played down the idea the Borough Park outfit have been plunged into a central midfield crisis.

Hewson admitted his side had a few ideas about players in mind but remained tight-lipped on who they were.

Reds went to Whitby on Tuesday night with just 14 players but salvaged a point thanks to Nathan Waterston's late equaliser.

He said: "I think it's important we look to bring someone else into the squad but it's got to be the right person.

"We do have some players in mind but it is difficult at this time of the season because a lot of players are already committed to clubs.

"They also have to bring quality to the squad.

"On Tuesday night, Joe McGee and Conor Tinnion played in central midfield roles and it shows how adaptable we are.

"The way they conducted themselves. There's no reason why we can't do that again.

"We don't see the central midfield situation as a crisis and we've got lads who are adaptable."

Reds are preparing for a tricky away trip to face Warrington tomorrow afternoon.

The management team will have to make do with long-term absentees Anthony Wright and Gari Rowntree, while Josh Calvert is unlikely to start.

James Earl will serve the last match of his three-game suspension. The players were due to train last night as normal.

Opponents Warrington have adjusted well to life in the seventh tier and sit in fifth place after 15 games.

Reds have already beaten The Yellows this season in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

Kick-off at Cantilever Park is at 3pm.
