Workington Reds fans may get to see more of new signing Sam Joel at Borough Park today after he impressed on his debut at Matlock last week.

Reds joint manager Dave Hewson has urged the youngster to be patient as he slots into the Workington team but admitted he showed glimpses of real talent.

And, after Joel came on as a substitute and set up the winning goal for Jack Ryan at Matlock, he could be rewarded with more game time this afternoon against Whitby Town, kick-off 3pm.

"He needs to be patient, he's only been with us a short amount of time but there were glimpses of the threat that he brings last week," said Hewson.

"There wasn't an opportunity to showcase everything he's got in the short time he was on but he certainly did himself no harm.

"He was very keen and eager, so we will certainly be looking to get him more game time."

Hewson says they will need a real all-round performance to unsettle second-placed Whitby but he is confident his side can pull it off.

"We always create chances when we are attacking and certainly at the moment with the players we have got," he added.

"We haven't always been clinical enough with those chances but more recently we have been more solid and that's always an important factor.

"To be in with a chance of coming out of the game with a win, we need to be strong in all aspects.

"We need to be on point across the park so we don't concentrate on one area, instead we need to pull together to be successful."

Whitby are likely to have centre-half Andrew May back in contention, while striker Mikey Roberts remains on loan at Guisborough Town.

The two sides have already met twice this season, both times in the north east, with a 1-1 draw in the league back in October before Whitby came from 2-0 down inside 20 minutes to win 4-3 in the FA Trophy, just weeks later.
