Reds are now fifth in the table with home games left against Ilkeston (tomorrow) and Sutton Coldfield (Saturday) as they bid to make the play-offs for a third successive year.
“I can’t praise the lads enough for this performance,” said Hewson.
“There are some tired, aching bodies in the dressing room because they gave it everything.
“To come to Nantwich and get a result like this was a bit special because they are a very good side.
“We do have a very enthusiastic and fit squad which is serving us well. We will go again tomorrow, looking for another three points."
“The squad is strong and together as a group and that’s how you get performances like this," he said.
"There weren’t many chances but Jack [Ryan] took his opportunity really well.
“I have to say, too, that the save by Aaran Taylor was brilliant.
"That’s what he is capable of and I think he has really come into his own as the top keeper we know he is."
Reds need one win now from their last two games to be sure of staying in the play-offs, and two victories could give them third place and a home tie in the play-off semi-final.
Nantwich had gone into the game needing a win to make sure they finished in the play-off positions and like Reds have two games left – at Halesowen, on Thursday, and away to Stourbridge, on Saturday.
