DAN Wordsworth will miss Workington’s FA Trophy match against Bromley after picking up a senseless booking in Saturday’s inept second half showing at Sutton Coldfield Town.

The rugged defender has accumulated ten yellow cards and will be suspended for the 3rd Round tie against the National League outfit – and the replay, should there be one!

After taking the lead, Reds capitulated in the second half and were put to the sword by a spirited Royals side, whose newly-appointed manager, Neil Tooth, has family connections with Workington.

The 4-1 defeat was their heaviest of the season and their first in six meetings against the West Midlands outfit.

In a third consecutive league reverse against lower-ranked opposition, Reds play-off aspirations suffered another telling blow.

Lee Andrews couldn’t hide his disappointment afterwards, saying, “The second-half performance was unacceptable and too many individual errors have proved costly.”

“The first two goals are down to a lack of concentration and poor marking allowing their centre forward two free headers, the third goal is a goalkeeping error and the fourth comes about when their attacker gets past three or four Workington defenders.

But even when we were ahead, our performance was flat and we felt the second goal of the afternoon would be crucial.”

Reds had started brightly and a ‘disguised’ free kick from David Symington rattled the upright before the latter’s corner was headed home by Josh Calvert to open the scoring.

It was Sutton Coldfield’s second half and Justin Richards’ two headers turned the game around in eight second half minutes.

“Our character, normally one of our strengths, was lacking today,” concluded Andrews.

Meanwhile, the joint-manager, will field a makeshift line-up for tomorrow night’s protracted Integro League Cup tie versus Marine at Borough Park (7.45pm) with several members of the reserve squad drafted in to face the four time winners of the competition.
