Workington Reds midfielder Rob Wilson says the team owes their supporters a performance and believes they can start to put things right against Shildon this afternoon.

Reds take on the team from the Northern League Division One in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup at Borough Park (kick-off 3pm).

The former Kendal star has never progressed to the third qualifying round in his career before, but he could finally make it there if Reds win.

A victory this afternoon would bring £4,500 in prize money to the club and leave them just two wins away from the first round proper.

Reds won their first qualifying round fixture against Warrington earlier this month convincingly to set up the Shildon tie.

The ninth tier side beat Wilson's former club Kendal in the preliminary round before seeing off Washington in the last round.

Wilson said: "At Lancaster and Kendal, I was always knocked out in the early rounds and I've never got past this stage.

"It would be nice to go further. I love watching the FA Cup shocks and underdogs.

"There's a big incentive and money for the club which it needs.

"We owe a performance to the fans who have travelled home and away and we've not done well."

The management team will have to manage without long-term absentees Gari Rowntree and Anthony Wright.

Kyle May is unavailable due to work commitments and Phil McLuckie is 50-50 following a neck injury.

After winning their first two league games, Reds have struggled and haven't won any of their last six matches.

Wilson added: "A win today would be massive. People are low on confidence as we've only won two out of our eight games in the league.

"The management team were saying in training on Thursday night that we need something to kickstart our season.

"It's good to win games, but ideally, we want to pick up points in the league in between."
