Workington Reds’ joint manager Lee Andrews believes his side’s spirited draw against Whitby earlier this month means they can go one better when the teams meet again tomorrow in the FA Trophy.

Reds travelled to Whitby two weeks ago with just 14 players available but Nathan Waterston salvaged a 1-1 draw for Workington.

The North Yorkshire side knocked Reds out of the FA Trophy at the same stage at Borough Park 12 months ago.

Andrews said: “It’s been a couple of weeks since we played Whitby and we will try and get the ball down and play.

"We did well there a couple of weeks ago and we’ve just got to go out there with the same mentality.”

The management team are sweating on the fitness of Josh Calvert and James Earl and Calvert was due to be assessed in training last night.

Long-term absentee Anthony Wright won’t feature but the management hope to have Gari Rowntree available again after the captain made his long-awaited comeback on Tuesday.

Opponents Whitby are currently top of the Northern Premier League on 34 points and have won their last three games.

Former Reds striker Matty Tymon is now on their books after joining them following his departure from Borough Park.

Andrews added: “Having someone like Gari back is a massive boost for us.”
