Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson has issued a rallying cry for supporters to be his side’s 12th man and roar them to a play-off place tonight.

Three points against second-bottom Ilkeston at Borough Park (7.45pm kick-off) would guarantee Reds a play-off spot for the third season in a row and Hewson believes the backing of a bumper crowd could help his players over the line.

“That’s definitely important. It’s always great when the fans are behind the team,” he said.

“They could be that all-important 12th man so, hopefully, we can get a lot of fans down.

“If the regulars can bring along friends and family members, it all helps.”

The hectic turnaround, with Reds playing their third game in five days tonight, means Hewson could be sweating over the fitness of some players.

But he hopes adrenaline and the occasion can give them a welcome boost.

“They’ve done everything they can to put themselves in this position,” he said.

“A victory secures a play-off place which would be a wonderful achievement for the players and the club.

“It’s just one last big push and I’m sure they’ll be up for it. There’s no reason we can’t do it.

“We’ve put a great run together at the right time.

“We’re the form team in the league and it’s all credit to the players. But we’ve got to be respectful of the teams that are coming to Borough Park.”

Meanwhile, Reds Development Fund will hold a pie and pea supper, followed by a race night, in Reds’ Social Club on Friday at 7pm.

Tickets cost £3. Call the club on 01900 602871 or John Mackay on 07912 859480.
