Workington Comets reserve James Sarjeant broke his thumb in Sunday’s Knockout Cup tie at Newcastle.

Sarjeant was forced to withdraw from the meeting after a heat two tumble caused by a hole in the track and it has been confirmed that his right thumb was broken in the crash.

The Comet also took a heavy hit to his ribs but is not believed to have done any serious damage and Workington will hope to know more about Sarjeant’s recovery after he is assessed later this week.

They did have some good news as Craig Cook and Thomas Jorgensen showed no ill effects from their heat 15 falls when the former scored 14 in Belle Vue’s win at Poole on Monday while the latter earned paid seven at Wolves for King’s Lynn.
