The of Workington Comets could hinge on attendances for the club’s final home fixtures this season, according to owner Laura Morgan.

Morgan was disappointed by the crowd for last Saturday’s home Premier League clash with league leaders Somerset and has urged supporters to back the team as she considers the club’s future.

Comets trail 64-25 from Sunday’s League Cup semi-final first leg at Glasgow ahead of tomorrow night’s home tie (7pm start) and Morgan hopes a bumper crowd can spur her riders on to prove a point.

She said: “I understand we missed out on the play-offs and people think they’re not important meetings.

“But we’re looking now at what we can manage to do next year and supporters staying at home, for whatever reason, isn’t helping anything.

“If they’re not turning up there’s no guarantee of income next year, so it’s definitely going to contribute to the decision we make.

“Last week was very disappointing because it was a nice night and there was no Grand Prix on the television. If people aren’t coming then it’s sending out the wrong message to me.”

Comets will use rider replacement for Rasmus Jensen, who is riding in a Danish Division One meeting at Holsted.

The meeting will be followed by a Northern Junior League fixture between Workington Meteors and Newcastle Gems.

The other semi-final second leg was due to take place last night, with Somerset taking an 18-point lead to Sheffield.

Meanwhile, Comets star Kenneth Hansen was due to defend his crown in the Teesside Silver Helmet at Redcar last night, with captain Ricky Wells also part of the line-up.

And Comets’ end-of-season do will be held at West Cumbria Trades Hall Centre, on Brow Top, on Friday, November 4.
