Workington Comets have the tools to tame the Tigers, believes Matt Williamson ahead of his side’s trip to Sheffield tomorrow night (7.30pm start).

Sheffield are one of the form teams in the SGB Championship and became the first side to win at Derwent Park this season just 11 days ago.

But Williamson is confident Comets have the firepower to do damage at Owlerton.

A depleted Tigers side will see Ryan Douglas come in for Josh Bates and rider replacement used for Kyle Howarth, while reserves Georgie Wood and Jan Graversen will make their debuts.

Comets have already confirmed that Tom Perry will guest for James Sarjeant.

“It’s one of those places where I love the track but I’ve still seemed to struggle for whatever reason,” Williamson said.

“But I’m a different rider this year so I’m going to go and do my best.

“Thomas Jorgensen loves big tracks, Craig Cook won the Premier League Riders’ Championship there, and Ty Proctor used to ride for them. So we’ll go there knowing we can hurt them.”

Matt Williamson Comets will hope to build on Monday’s morale-boosting comeback win at Newcastle, which went some way to making up for the west Cumbrians’ controversial Knockout Cup exit at Brough Park last month.

Williamson said: “From a team perspective, it was absolutely fantastic to get revenge on them. And to get three points on the road was brilliant.

“I’m so happy for Tony Jackson, Steve Whitehead and Laura Morgan. I’m pleased to come away unscathed with points on the board and to contribute to the win.”

The Bury-based rider has had to adapt to a new role in the main body of the team after improving his average so far this season and he admitted that should come more easily as the fixtures come thick and fast until the end of the campaign.
