Workington Comets face a gruelling day of Knockout Cup action next Sunday as they host Newcastle at Derwent Park before travelling to the Diamonds' home hours later.

It has been decided that the back-to-back meetings would be the best solution to a packed fixture list for both clubs after Comets fought back from eight points down for a 90-90 aggregate draw in April to earn a replay.

Comets announced yesterday that they will host Newcastle at Derwent Park at 1pm on June 25 before travelling to the north east for the return leg at 7.30pm.

The promotions have agreed adults will be able to attend both meetings for £25.

Co-promoter Steve Whitehead said: "We would like to thank a few people in supporting us getting this fixture on.

"Firstly Newcastle for being flexible and moving back their start time, then we have the rugby club, St John's Ambulance and all our hard-working staff to allow this to happen.

"Hopefully plenty of Newcastle and Workington fans will take advantage of the offer of a discounted ticket for entry to both meetings."

Both sides have reshuffled since those early clashes, with Ben Hopwood and Dan Greenwood slotting into the Diamonds' lineup while James Sarjeant is now a Comet.

Meanwhile, £5 tickets are still available for the race night organised by Workington Speedway Trust at the town’s Railway Club next Friday to raise money for Comets.
