Danish rider Thomas Jorgensen hopes he has used up his bad luck for the season after bike problems led to a frustrating Cumberland Open.

The Workington Comets star was flying with wins in his first two rides, including a spectacular pass on team-mate Ty Proctor, before engine problems forced him to switch to a second bike which never really got going.

Jorgensen was happy with a respectable nine points and some fine riding in front of his new fans but hopes the mechanical woes are behind him ahead of this weekend’s Knockout Cup ties against Newcastle Diamonds.

He said: “It went okay. My first two heats were great but then I had some problems with the bike which I guess you could tell from my scores.

“I couldn’t get the other bike to go as well as the first one, everything went wrong that night.

“I just wish I had a bit more luck but I felt like I had a lot of speed and it was nice to be back on the bike.

“The track was really well prepared, considering it was the first meeting and usually the track tends to be rougher.

“It’s good to have all the problems out of the way before the proper season kicks off when you need to win the meetings.”

Comets welcome the Diamonds on Saturday (7pm start) before a trip to Brough Park the following day, with the aggregate winners over the weekend also claiming the Ian Thomas Shield.

“I’ve been there a few times with different clubs and it’s not really my favourite track,” Jorgensen said.

“It’s one of those tracks where it’s so hard to pass, you have to get out.

“It’s more of a gater’s track so if I can pull them out on the night I’ll be fine.”
