Workington Comets have called on popular racers Ulrich Ostergaard and Lewis Kerr to fill the gap left by Craig Cook and Thomas Jorgensen tomorrow night.

Comets host a full-strength Edinburgh side at Derwent Park (7pm start), with the Monarchs having moved into the play-offs since Workington travelled to face them last Friday.

And the West Cumbrians will be without captain Cook and No5 Jorgensen, with the pair due to ride for Belle Vue and King's Lynn respectively in the Premiership Riders Championship.

The club has faced a mad scramble to replace their skipper this week, with most of the obvious candidates either racing in the same meeting or busy with their Championship clubs.

But they have managed to secure the services of popular former Comet Ostergaard at No1, while Kerr will guest for Jorgensen and ride at No3, with Ty Proctor moving to No5 for tomorrow's meeting.

Cook and Jorgensen are due to be back in the side for Sunday's trip to Scunthorpe (5.30pm start)

No7 guests for the weekend have yet to be confirmed.

With three guests tomorrow, team manager Tony Jackson admitted the pressure will be on Proctor, Mason Campton, Matt Williamson and James Sarjeant to help them out.

"We are very grateful to Ulrich and Lewis and they're both popular riders," Jackson said.

"Ulrich likes riding at Workington and hopefully he can do a good job for us.

"Lewis has had some great meetings at Workington.

"If we can get off to a decent start we know we can win at home.

"Ty has done really well this season and got better as the season has gone on.

"Obviously our guys will have to be on it.

"As the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

"It's going to be tough this weekend, there's no doubt about that, but hopefully people will appreciate the situation we are in and get behind the lads."

It will only be Jake Allen's second home meeting for the Scorpions after he scored 11 from four rides last weekend.

"Hopefully we will do a lot better there than last time, when we were without Craig Cook and Aaron Summers had a poor meeting," Jackson said.

Meanwhile, Comets will now host Peterborough Panthers on September 30.
