Forster, who has only recently returned to action after four months out following a shoulder operation, has labelled the game a “do-or-die derby.”

The 24-year-old, in his second spell at the Recreation Ground, said after Sunday’s 48-16 defeat at Sheffield: “To say I am gutted is an understatement! The second-half was shocking and we now have a big week ahead to fix it! It’s a do-or-die derby on Sunday.

“I’d just say a big thank you to the travelling fans at Sheffield and hope they will get behind the team at Workington.

“For me personally, it’s been a long hard four months but it has felt so good to be back out there despite the results we’ve had against Bradford and Sheffield.

“I’d just like to say thanks for all the messages and good wishes I’ve had from fans.”

Forster was released from his contract with Salford in June after finding game time under Ian Watson limited, making just a handful of appearances this season.

The former St Helens forward had previously made 22 appearances for the west Cumbrians having spent time with the Championship club in 2013 and 2014 while on dual-registration from St Helens. He had turned professional with Saints in 2009 after catching the eye while playing for amateur club Pilkington Recs.

On his return to the Recreation Ground last month, after agreeing an 18-month contract, he Tweeted “Over the moon to have signed with @OfficialHavenRl ! My best and most enjoyable days were here and can’t wait to get back to them ways!”

For that reason, his rallying call to the team will be particularly welcome and well received by players, officials and fans alike.
