Whitehaven continue to add to their impressive squad of players being recruited for the 2017 season in League One.

They have re-signed one of their promising young players, Kurtis Quinn, and landed the captain of the all-conquering Distington amateur side, Aiden Worthington.

New coach Carl Forster had pledged to put together a competitive squad of 24 players and is close to achieving that target.

A former Wath Brow amateur, who went on to play for Cumbria Storm Academy team, Quinn has re-joined Whitehaven after having a year out when he was recovering from a serious shoulder injury.

An athletic, all-round forward Quinn, 20, has been a member of the club’s community team.

After re-signing, Quinn said: “I’d like to say a special thank you to the Haven club for allowing me last year to recover from my operation.

“I can’t wait for pre-season training and the chance to pull-on the chocolate, blue and gold shirt again.”

Worthington is a late arrival in the pro ranks as he turned 31 in May but he has proved over the last 10 years to be one of the most consistent forwards in the amateur game.

He made a little bit of history in Distington by becoming the first club player to be called up to play for BARLA.

He has played for his local village team for 10 years and has been a firm fans’ favourite every year.

He has been an important part of the Distington team which went through 2016 in Cumbria with an unbeaten record.

After signing-on for the Recreation Ground club, Worthington said: “This is a huge opportunity for me and I will do all I can to impress.

“Without the help of my amateur coaches Gary and Carl Hewer, this wouldn’t be possible so I would like to take the time to thank them for everything I have been able to do and all the support they have given me.”

Assessing his two latest recruits, coach Forster said: “It’s great to have another two locals on board after signing Troy Armstrong at the weekend.

"I hope that another couple will be joining us, as well.

“For Aiden, after doing so well in the amateur game, this is a natural progression for him.

“Kurtis has worked really hard since we spoke about him re-signing and he has got himself back into good shape for pre-season.”

Forster will be getting his complete squad together for the first time on Tuesday, November 15.
