Marc Shackley will be back in contention for Whitehaven when they resume their League One campaign on Sunday.

The former Workington Town prop was on the agenda for last week’s match review panel following his dismissal in the home win over Newcastle Thunder.

Shackley was sent to the sin-bin for what was described as a professional foul but that punishment was considered sufficient by the panel.

He missed Saturday’s 28-14 win at London Skolars because he was attending Karl Olstrom’s wedding, so is now clear for selection when Whitehaven host the bottom club Hemel Stags.

Two Newcastle players were also the subject of match review panel deliberations and one of them, Tyler Craig, faces a charge for a late contact with a kicker.

That was actually on Haven’s marksman Paul Crook, which left the former Rochdale half-back doubtful for the weekend trip to London. He had suffered a badly bruised foot but in the end was able to play and supplied six goals for the Whitehaven cause.

The other Newcastle player reviewed by the panel was Evan Simons for striking but the sin-binning was ruled to be sufficient punishment.

A win over the struggling Stags would more than likely put Haven joint second in the League One table.

They currently sit third, two points behind the joint-leaders Toronto and Barrow who meet in Canada on Saturday.

Carl Forster and his men won’t be taking Hemel lightly, despite the fact that they have lost all seven games so far, conceding 440 points in the process.

They will travel to west Cumbria on the back of a 50-24 home defeat by Doncaster which had followed a 66-18 home defeat by Workington Town.
