Keighley coach Craig Lingard has a selection headache ahead of his side’s trip to Whitehaven.

Injuries and suspensions meant the Cougars fielded a depleted squad in Sunday’s richly-deserved 26-26 draw with Toronto Wolfpack.

For Sunday, prop Josh Tonks will be back after a five-match suspension and Brad Nicholson is likely to be available too.

Lingard has steered his side to an unbeaten run of five games and is convinced they can go on to earn a semi-final play-off place.

The coach said: “It becomes a dilemma when you’ve been undefeated in five games and people are starting to come back to fitness. But those players have to force their way into the team.

“In Tonks’ case, he is a really important player for us. His aggression, the way that he carries the ball, and his enthusiasm makes him someone that you want in the team.

“He will strengthen us and, hopefully, Nicholson will be available as well. Then we might have some headaches about who to select rather than who can we select because we haven’t got enough bodies.”

Lingard is looking for his Cougars to maintain momentum and gain revenge for the 28-22 defeat at the Recreation Ground in the regular season

He believes his side have consistency at the moment but knows it will be difficult as Whitehaven will be looking to get back to winning ways after the setback at Doncaster.

Last Sunday’s results mean the gap between sixth-placed Cougars and Doncaster is now two points with four games to go.

The coach added: “It’s disappointing I suppose that Whitehaven got beaten by Doncaster because we would’ve been in the top five after that but, it is what it is. We didn’t get that favour.

"All we can do is keep winning games or keep chalking these draws off and not getting beat.”
