Whitehaven will be making late checks on two players ahead of Sunday’s League One Play-off final against Barrow.

Jessie Joe Parker, who scored two tries in the semi-final win over York, and record try-scorer Craig Calvert both took knocks at the weekend.

But player coach Carl Forster expects both of them to be in the line-up at Craven Park.

Forster said: “I suppose in some circumstances we might have rested them but it’s a final and they will be fine to be involved.

“I know their presence in the line-up is best for the team.

“Everyone is gearing up for the game and preparing in the right manner. We are going to train Saturday instead of Friday and will have a meal together.

“We have tremendous spirit in the dressing room and that’s matched by grit, character and determination.

“There won’t be any motivation needed. Everyone is up for the final as this is what we’ve been planning for over the last ten months.”

Whitehaven beat Barrow 32-6 in the final game of the regular season to seal second spot in the league.

But when they met two weeks later in the first game of the Super Eights, back at the Recreation Ground, the south Cumbrians triumphed 15-2.

Opposite number Paul Crarey does have some fitness worries to contend with – although his side were short of three regulars on Sunday and still whipped Newcastle Thunder 60-0.

“We’ve had a lot of adversity thrown at us and even before the game, I probably didn’t sleep the night before,” said Crarey.

Raiders lost Danny Morrow during the semi-final, and he looks like he’ll be out for the final.

Hooker Nathan Mossop is being continually assessed for an injury sustained in the final Super Eights game against Keighley Cougars.

Martin Aspinwall and Brad Crellin are also being monitored as well as they recuperate from their illnesses which side-lined them at the weekend.
