Workington Town’s Peter Lupton gets Wales international call

Returning Workington Town star Peter Lupton has been called into the Welsh train-on squad, ahead of their international with France in June.
Lupton, who may make his return from injury on Sunday against his former Super League club, now playing in Championship One as the North Wales Crusaders, has been named in a 28-man Welsh squad.
And if he plays at Derwent Park on Sunday, he could go up against four of his future national team-mates with Christiaan Roets, Owain Brown, Iwan Brown and Kriss Wilkes all included in the squad.
Town coach Gary Charlton says they will make a decision on whether Lupton plays later this week, after seeing how he comes through training.
“He is back in training full- time so we are hopeful but we will have to wait and see what happens this week,” said Charlton, who is cautious about bringing his star man back too soon.
“We will watch him in training and assess him tonight. As soon as we can get him back up and running we will be a different team.
“He will give us that little bit of experience, he is a great talker and will take us round the field.
“We have got a lot of players out there just looking for a leader and we believe that Peter is that leader.”
If Lupton is selected for the final Welsh side to meet France at The Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium in Wrexham on Saturday, June 16, it will be his second appearance.
“I’m really happy with the make-up of the squad which contains a good selection of youth and experience,” said Wales coach Iestyn Harris.
“It’s good that we have players in the squad from both South Wales Scorpions and North Wales Crusaders. I’m sure that they will all work hard to try and get a place in the matchday squad and I know that the Crusaders players will want to shine on their home ground.”
