Top Widnes prospect Grant Gore to make Workington Town debut

Widnes Vikings prospect Grant Gore will make his Workington Town debut in tomorrow’s clash with Halifax at Derwent Park (3pm).
He will be joined by fellow dual-registered Viking Declan Hulme, who made a try-scoring introduction for Town in last week’s battling opening win at Swinton.
“I’ve looked at Grant a couple of times over the last six months and he has been very impressive,” coach Gary Charlton said.
“He is very sharp out of dummy-half, strong and fast, with a good rugby brain.”
The 21-year-old was the Widnes Academy player of the year in 2010 and made his Super League debut as a sub against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley in August last year.
He is comfortable at half-back and hooker and is set to feature as a No 9 off the bench tomorrow.
Hulme created a great impression last week and Charlton is happy to welcome him back in to the fold.
“He’s strong at running the ball back and safe under the high ball, and he looks like he can play a bit of rugby as well,” added the coach.
“We set a platform with our defence at Swinton and have now to reach that level in all areas.
“We have to be a bit sharper going forward but that will take a little time.
“Halifax are a good team and have been at the top of this league for the last few years, and this is the sort of team we want to play.
“Last year we probably played a couple of soft games, but there are none of those this season in this league, and we’ll have to play well every week.”
John Patrick steps in for Jason Mossop, who has an ankle injury.
Halifax are without Iain Davies, who suffered a rib injury during last week’s 18-10 win over Sheffield Eagles.
Coach Karl Harrison said: “Workington are a big, physical team with plenty of Super League experience in Jamie Thackray, Ewan Dowes and Peter Lupton.”
