James Newton signs for Workington Town

Cumbrian prospect James Newton has joined Workington Town on dual registration from Super League club Hull.

The 20-year-old can operate at hooker, loose-forward or back-row.

“James comes to us highly-recommended by Lee Radford at Hull, and will be a valuable addition to the squad,” coach Gary Charlton told Town’s website.

“It ties in with our principle of ensuring we have cover at all positions, and offers James the potential of quality game time at a higher level.

“Darren King is still having problems shaking off a troublesome injury which may need a scan, so ensuring we have cover for Graeme Mattinson is essential.”
