Five more victories will make Workington Town league winners

Workington Town’s reign at the top of Championship One was extended by Barrow’s narrow defeat at Doncaster.
The Furness side went into action trying to reclaim top spot two hours after Town had demolished South Wales Scorpions to take over from them in pole position.
But despite a spirited effort their 28-24 defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium earned only a bonus point, and Town’s superior points differential keeps them ahead.
Gary Charlton, Town’s joint coach, said: “It was always going to be tight between the three of us and we are level on points with Barrow and just two ahead of Donny with five to play.
“We have them both to play so those games will have a big say in who actually finishes top of the league.
“Now that we are on top we know that five more wins will make us the league winners. That’s our target.
“As long as we don’t take our eyes off the ball, stay focused and concentrated, taking one game at a time I think we will be fine.
“I thought we played some decent rugby against South Wales and there were some exceptional tries in the ten we scored.
“They tried to slow things down and make it difficult for us but overall I thought we coped well and finished the game very strongly.”
Five of the ten tries which sank the Scorpions were scored by winger Elliott Miller – two in the first ten minutes and the others in a seven minute spell at the end of the game.
Charlton said: “Like a few others in the squad Elliott has been playing well and consistently all season and it was good to see him finish so clinically.
“We always believed he had the ability to do well in the professional ranks and he hasn’t let us down.”
Town now have 10 days to prepare for the first of the two games which will inevitably be billed as title deciders.
The west Cumbrians should have travelled to Doncaster next Sunday but that has been moved back to the Thursday and will be televised on Premier Sports.
Then on Sunday, August 12 Town entertain county neighbours Barrow at Derwent Park.
