Farrer and Patrick leave Workington Town

Richard Farrer and John Patrick have left high-flying Workington Town – but the door has been left open for both to return to the club.
The pair asked to be released, prop Farrer due to limited opportunities in his first season at Derwent Park, and winger/centre Patrick over a career change.
“The door stays open for good players like Rich and JP, and they go with our best wishes,” stressed coach Gary Charlton.
“We don’t want to lose players at this stage of the season, but if, as with Richard Farrer, you just want to play rugby, we are not going to stop him.
“It’s a short career and you’ve got to enjoy it. We have some good players in his position and we couldn’t give him the game time he probably deserved.
“John Patrick loves playing for Workington Town. He’s a big, strong lad and you always want to keep a player like him, but he is having a career change and is going on a six-week course, which means he can’t play for us.”
Town lie second in Championship One, and their fine form in June was recognised when five of their players were named in the team of the month.
Hooker Graeme Mattinson was named player of the month and was joined by Jason Mossop, Brett Phillips, Dave Petersen and Elliott Miller.
“Graeme’s a great favourite around the place with fans and everybody else. He’s a big performer at the moment, and he’s not the only one,” said chairman Dave Bowden. “I thought Jason Mossop was man of the match against North Wales last week. I know of the hard work he puts in and it’s paying off.
“Elliott Miller has shown improvement week-on-week and Brett Phillips has been a revelation since he left the amateur game to join us.
“Dave Petersen is such a busy player. He puts in 30 or 40 tackles and wants to take the ball in as well. He’s also starting to emerge as a try-scorer, running almost the full length against Whitehaven.”
