Keswick's Abbie Scott is one of six Harlequins Ladies’ players in the England squad which is preparing for the start of the Old Mutual Wealth Series.

As part of the three-match series, England will play Canada at Allianz Park on Friday, before further games against the Canadians at Twickenham Stoop on Tuesday and Twickenham Stadium next Saturday evening.

A total of 27 players convened at Bisham Abbey on Monday, ahead of the first test.

Loughborough Lightning’s Catherine O’Donnell and Hannah Botterman, of Saracens Women, have both been called-up for the first time as they replace the injured duo of Sarah Bern (foot) and Harriett Millar-Mills (knee).

Also coming into the squad for the first time is Scott’s Harlequins team-mate Shaunagh Brown.

It will be the first time the Red Roses’ squad has met-up since their World Cup campaign, where Simon Middleton’s team reached the final but then lost to 41-32 to New Zealand.

“We will be focused on bringing the squad together, which combines exciting young talent and more experienced players, ensuring we are fully prepared to take on Canada in the opening test this Friday,” said head coach Middleton.

“Catherine O’Donnell and Hannah Botterman, who have been called-up, offer the characteristics that we are looking to see from the team this year, playing a confrontational style of rugby and we feel they will add an edge to the side. While Shaunagh Brown has earned the opportunity to join the squad ahead of the first test after putting in consistently outstanding performances in the Tyrrells Premier 15s this season.

“We are looking forward to seeing what she can bring to the international set-up.

“Sadly, Harriett Millar-Mills will not feature this season after picking up a long-term injury ahead of camp. She delivered some incredible performances this season in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, we wish her the best with her recovery.

“We feel for Sarah Bern who will also miss the series through injury, which was picked up on club duty, but we know she will be working hard to over the next couple of months to be back in contention ahead of the Six Nations.”

After helping England reach the World Cup Final in Ireland Scott, who went to Keswick School and Sedbergh School, joined Harlequins Ladies from Darlington Mowden Park.

The 24-year-old has helped the Quins, who sit top of the Tyrrells Premier 15s league table, to claim eight successive league victories this season.
