Previously unbeaten Tarleton arrived at Bleach Green confident of a win in the first round of the Northern Division Senior Vase.

That confidence appeared well founded when they muscled over for the first try of the game to take an early 5-0 lead but it was Egremont who eventually snatched a dramatic win.

However, Egremont responded by taking the game straight back to the Tarleton line.

Finally, after a series of attacks had been resisted, gifted centre Kieran Halcrow delivered a perfectly timed cross kick for wing Albert McKay to cross wide on the left.

Thereafter, the defences of the teams dominated play, despite great attacking endeavour being shown by both sides.

Egremont kicker Matt Bewsher added two penalties, which were also matched by the visitors, to keep the score locked at 11-11 as the clock ran down to what appeared to be an inevitable draw.

However, Egremont played their way into the Tarleton 22 and launched a furious sequence of drives at the line.

When the visitors turned over Egremont possession with time for just one final scrum remaining, it looked as though the last opportunity had gone.

However, Egremont produced a huge forward effort to win the scrum against the head and Bewsher calmly slotted a drop goal which was immediately followed by the final whistle for a dramatic 14-11 win.

This takes Egremont to Cheshire side Dukinfield in the next round on December 5.
