West Cumbria were mixing with some former greats last weekend at the North West Masters RL festival.

Ex-Warrington centre Toa Kohe-Love, former Leigh star Dave Bradbury and a name familiar to West Cumbrian fans in ex-Haven, Salford and Leigh second row Andy Gorski all donned their boots on the day for various teams.

Wests went up against two teams they had never played before in Leigh Miners Rangers and Medway Dragons, of Kent.

And they also took on Leyland Warriors as 15 teams competed with 196 players on show.

Wests spokesman Dave Farrell said: "It was a great day and from our point of view we played three really good teams and two that were new to us.

"The Leigh game in particular was very demanding as were up against a team that had at least three ex-Super League players in Dave Bradbury, Andy Gorski and Peter Marsh.

"We were outscored by two tries to nil but it took a loose pass to let them in as we were matching them.

"That tipped the game their way and they got a breakaway try late on for their second.

"But we were all pleased to have matched a good side blow for blow. Masters is proving to have such a good standard while still being fun to play."

Against Leyland, Jack Crone touched down for Wests with an interception to make it 1-1 at the final whistle.

And against Medway Crone got his second of the tournament, to go alongside a try for Barry Maxwell in a 2-1 scoreline but masters does not record winners or losers.

Next for Wests will be a home game against a Cumbrian Select on August 26 at Arlecdon, ko 1pm, anyone with an interest is welcome to go along.
