The Rugby Football League has opened an investigation into a brawl that marred a Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie.

Keighley claim one of their players had his ear bitten and another sustained a broken jaw during their 50-32 third-round win over amateurs Fryston at Featherstone's Big Fellas Stadium on Sunday.

According to the Kingstone Press League One club, a second-half exchange between Davey Dixon (Keighley) and Adam Rothwell (Fryston) boiled over and sparked a series of fights, which led to both players being sin-binned while Andy Speake (Fryston) and Emmerson Whittel (Keighley) were sent off.

Keighley say Whittel sustained a broken jaw and have asked the league to examine an alleged ear bite on Josh Lynam.

The Cougars have also lodged a formal complaint about the manner in which their players and staff were treated on arrival at the ground.

An RFL spokesman confirmed the league's operations team has started gathering evidence and reports into off-field incidents while the match-review panel will consider any foul play at its weekly meeting on Thursday.

The panel will also decide what charge to bring against Toronto Wolfpack's former New Zealand international Fuifui Moimoi following his dismissal for a high and late tackle during the Canadian club's historic match against Siddal.

Moimoi was sent off late on in Toronto's 14-6 third-round Cup victory over the Halifax amateur team in their first competitive match on Saturday.

Any disciplinary hearing will take place on Tuesday week, so Moimoi will be available for the Wolfpack's League One debut against London Skolars at the New Rivers Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the RFL is expected to reveal further details on Tuesday about their investigation into Wigan's decision to postpone Friday's Betfred Super League match against Widnes.

The Warriors subsequently re-arranged the match for the same night, switching it to their opponents' ground, but could be fined if it is discovered they failed to follow the correct procedure in their initial decision to call off the match.
