Time and time again we hear of referees being abused, criticised or generally treated with disrespect.

Well, how good was it to hear a club singing the praises of an official who has just taken care of their game. Brad Milligan takes centre stage after the Cumbria Men’s league game between Glasson and Ulverston.

Both clubs were full of praise for the way that he had controlled the game and they weren’t slow in coming forward to sing their praises.

Glasson won 40-20 with tries from Brad Tremble (2), Dean Petre, Tom Dixon, Keenan Winter, Gary Taylor and Gary Tierney. Dixon converted six.

The Ulverston tries were scored by Jonny Hutton, James Armstead, Marc Storey and Ryan John with Connor Saunders converting two.

Also in the Cumbria Men’s league, Wath Brow had a very good 30-20 win over former champions Walney.

The Wath Brow tries were scored by Andrew Bulman (3), Curtis Teare (2) and Sam Curwen. Teare converted three.

Walney Central’s tries came from Jamie Ralph, Brad Nichols, Stuart Tippet and Elliot Furness with two conversions by David Nicholson.

Men’s League champions Distington have already suffered two defeats this season by Hensingham.

But this time, in the preliminary round of the Cumberland Cup, they gained their revenge.

It finished 52-18 to Distington as they scored tries through Brian Ritchie (2), Clayton Sutton (2), Tom Glover (2), Nicky Cook, Carl Stevenson and Gavin Martin. Sutton converted eight.

The Hensingham tries came from Craig Branthwaite, Gordon Maudling and Ryan Corlett with three conversions by Marc Bainbridge.

In the Cumbria Shield, Egremont went through without breaking sweat as opponents Aspatria could not raise a team.
