A young Kells A team lifted the BARLA Cumbria Shield after a splendid recovery.

They were 30-16 in arrears at one point but fought back in determined fashion to lift the trophy with a 34-32 win.

Walney A hosted the final and looked to be heading for victory until Kells came with a late rally.

The six Kells tries came from Jake Corrie (2), Danny Docherty, Lloyd O’Neill, Barry Boyd and Harry Watson.

The five goals came from Ryan Doran (3), Ryan Robb and Stephen McCourt.

In the Cumbria Men’s League, Ellenborough competed a quick double over Glasson, winning the renewal 32-6.

The half-time scoreline of 6-0 to Elbra gave little indication of what was to come, but Glasson faltered in the second half to leave the advantage with the hosts.

The Ellenborough tries were scored by Andy Ostle (3), Kevin Hoban (2) and Craig Dowling. Michael Hill landed four goals.

The Glasson try scorer was Gary Taylor with Craig Foster putting over the goal.

Seaton put up a gritty performance at leaders Hensingham before going under 38-22.

They were still very much in the contest at half-time, trailing just 16-12 but Hensingham had that little bit extra to see them over the line.

Chris Smith led the way for Hensingham with a hat-trick of tries and he was followed over by Jake Bradley (2), Daniel Smith and Marc Bainbridge. There were also five goals for Bainbridge.

The try scorers for Seaton were Lewis Mason, Scott Rooke, John Chisnall and Jordan Pritt. Mark Walker landed three goals.

Walney Central won 34-18 at Ulverston after they had been locked together 12-12 at half-time.

The bottom side, Ulverston’s tries were scored by Matt Dean (2) and Sam Williams. Connor Saunders kicked three goals.

For Walney, there were tries from Adam Nicholson, Harry Geel, Jamie Morrow, Jake Deveraux and Matty Elliot.

Dave Nicholson kicked three goals with one each by George Nichols and Matty McKee.

The game between champions Distington and Wath Brow was postponed.

Only one game was played in the Iggesund Cumberland ARL, in which, the leaders Cockermouth had to work hard to beat the bottom team Broughton Red Rose 28-12.

At half-time, the Red Rose were putting up a good fight, only trailing 10-6.

Dave Campbell scored a try in each half for the Red Rose and each was converted by Jonty Bell.

The Cockermouth tries were scored by Shane Cusack (3), Nathan Lawman and Jonny Goulding. Gareth Skillen kicked four goals.

There are two big games tomorrow night, the semi-finals of the EB Lamb Amateur Cup – Distington v Aspatria and Ellenborough v Seaton.
