Flimby and Kells have both progressed to the semi-finals of the Cumbria Shield which will be played on Saturday, May 13.

Kells booked their spot following an 18-14 win against league new boys Cockermouth and will now travel to either Egremont or Aspatria who meet this Saturday.

Kieran Halcrow was the Kells hero scoring a hat-trick of tries, all of which were converted by Grant Gainford.

For the visitors, Matthew Skillen, Ryan Burns and Peter Wood all crossed the whitewash, with Gareth Skillen landing one conversion.

Flimby will make the short trip to Broughton Red Rose for their semi-final encounter, after a solid second-half display saw them dispose of Lowca 48-16 in their tie.

In almost perfect conditions, the home side got off the mark after 12 minutes when prop forward Adam Birkett, home on leave from the Navy, made a strong run down the left-wing to score the first of his brace out wide.

Within five minutes, and following sustained pressure on the Flimby line, Lowca were awarded a penalty and stand-off Keith Campbell opted to take a quick tap and raced over the line right beside the uprights. Callum Sirkett converted.

Flimby regained the lead on 23 minutes through Connor Wilson, scoring the first of his two. Callum Moffat converted.

On 28 minutes, following a "bit of a melee", Lowca’s John Thinneson received his marching orders from referee Neil Byers and Lowca had to play the remainder of the game with 12 men.

However, just four minutes later, on the last tackle, Lowca opted to kick the ball across field which was caught and fed to their pacey centre Emmerson Allen who touched down. Callum Sirkett kicked a fine touchline conversion and Lowca were back in front.

The see-saw tie continued on 35 minutes when straight from the scrum Conner Wilson made a perfect pass to Carl Grima who scored midway between the posts and touchline. Moffat converted to give Flimby a 16-12 lead at the break.

On 46 minutes, stand-off Darren Pape increased Flimby’s lead when a jinking run ended with him scoring under the sticks. This was quickly followed by Tony Huddart, scoring his first for the club.

Just past the hour, Flimby hit a purple patch, scoring four tries in 12 minutes through Andrew Prest, Wilson, Birkett and Grima who were all scoring their second of the game.

Lowca had the last word however, scoring the final try of the game on 75 minutes when Campbell touched down for his second try.
