Egremont Rangers are fighting their way clear of their relegation fears in the National Conference Premier Division.

Just a couple more wins from the last five games – three to be certain – should be enough to guarantee them staying in the top flight next year.

The Gillfoot side has recovered well from a dreadful start when there were visions of a season-long fight for survival.

It virtually went down to the last match a year ago and there were a few squeaky bums before safety was assured.

A big win by 38-16 last Saturday was particularly satisfying as it was against Pilkington Recs who are now next to bottom, four points adrift of the Cumbrians.

It will be a bit tougher tomorrow for John Paul Brocklebank’s team as they host a West Hull side fifth in the table.

The Humbersiders slipped up at home last week, losing 24-20 at home to second-in-the-table Thatto Heath.

So they have lost ground to make up in west Cumbria and their clash with the Mont looks a tasty affair.

What is it about Rochdale Mayfield that the Cumbrians can’t master? They did it again last week, completing another double over Kells with a narrow 20-18 win.

Tomorrow, they host Wath Brow in what looks another outstanding fixture after the pair drew at Red Beck earlier in the season.

Hornets are third in the table, just a point better off than the Rochdale side.

After their heavy defeat at West Hull the week before, Wath Brow hit back with a 48-12 home win over Wigan St Patrick’s.

Tomorrow, Kells travel to St. Pat’s hoping to get Rochdale Mayfield out of their system with a good, winning performance.

In the Iggesund Cumberland ARL, Kells A have a big game tomorrow at home to Egremont A.

Both are chasing leaders Cockermouth with a game in hand. Egremont are just two points behind while Kells are three in arrears.

Interestingly Cockermouth are away to Aspatria, their nearest rivals - two points behind from the same number of games.

The third game scheduled for tomorrow sees Cockermouth’s recent 40-34 conquerors Lowca travelling to play the bottom side, Broughton Red Rose.

The title battle in the Cumbria Men’s League has become a two-horse race between champions Distington and Hensingham.

Frustratingly, Hensingham don’t have a game again tomorrow but Distington are back in action with a game at Ellenborough Rangers.

Now Ellenborough have already beaten Distington in the cup and would love to repeat the trick in the league.

But Distington have been putting a string of decent results together of late after a stuttering start to the season.

Seton Rangers have climbed from the foot of the table to fourth and will expect to keep their run going when they visit Wath Brow A.

The third game in the competition is an all-south Cumbria affair with Walney Central hosting Ulverston.
