Distington and Ellenborough will contest the final of the EB Lamb Amateur Cup.

They were both eventually clear winners of their semi-finals, although half-time scorelines suggested otherwise.

Distington only led Aspatria 10-6 at the break but went on to win 30-6.

The half-time score at Ellenborough only indicated a tough, ultra-competitive battle as the hosts and Seaton had failed to score a point between them.

In the end, Elbra pulled away to win 27-6 but it wasn’t until the 73rd minute that they really put the game to bed.

Distington had made a flying start against Aspatria and went in front after only two minutes with a try by Gavin Martin, which he converted himself.

But, 10 minutes later, Aspatria were level as Ellis Nixon got over for a try which Luke Johnston converted.

Luke Scott put Distington back in front on 15 minutes with an unconverted try but that was the last of the first-half scoring.

Aspatria had fought with great spirit but four tries by Distington in the second half pulled them well clear.

Liam Friel crossed twice in the 48th and 56th minutes before touchdowns in the last ten minutes from Steve Clark and Matt Hewer wrapped-up the win. Kieran Worthington converted the last two tries.

After a scoreless first-half against Seaton, in which they had a man sent off, Ellenborough took the lead on 42 minutes with a try from Brett Stevenson which Michael Hill converted.

Seaton hit back nine minutes later with a try by Grant Reed which was converted by Miguel Blanco Charters to put them level.

When they were awarded a penalty on 53 minutes, Hill took the opportunity to put his side back in front with a successful kick.

The 12 men did particularly well in the final quarter, scoring three tries to put themselves nicely clear.

Jason Graham (68 minutes), Kevin Hoban (73) and Louis Fearon (78) all crossed with Hill converting all three while, in the last minute, Andy Ostle put over a drop goal.

Wath Brow Hornets moved to second place in the National Conference Premier Division with their tight derby win over Kells.

They will want to stay there and eat into the leaders Siddal’s lead over the last eight games.

Tomorrow won’t be easy, though, as they have a long trip in prospect to face one of the better sides in the competition.

They face West Hull away, a week after the Humberside team beat Thatto Heath 30-28 to reach the semi-finals of the RFL Challenge Trophy.

At one point West Hull were trailing 22-6 before storming back to win the game with a converted try eight minutes from the end.

Hornets are only four points behind Siddal with a game in hand, but will be wary of any slip ups on Humberside as the leaders face a relatively easy task at bottom club Leigh Miners Rangers.

Kells are still smarting from that 18-16 home defeat by the Hornets, when their late rally just fell short.

Peter Smith’s men can return to winning ways tomorrow when they are back at home against a Pilkington Recs side struggling to get out of the relegation zone.

Kells are safe mid-table but still have designs on reaching the top four.

It’s looking like any three from five at the bottom to slip into Division One – and Egremont are in the dogfight again.

They can help themselves tomorrow when they host solid, middle-of-the-road opponents in Myton Warriors.

With the two sides below them – Pilkington Recs and Leigh Miners Rangers – not expected to win they will look to collect the two points and hope the two sides immediately above them miss out.

Skirlaugh go to Thatto Heath and Wigan St. Patrick’s host Rochdale Mayfield – both stiff tests.

Glasson Rangers have dropped like a stone in the Cumbria Men’s League and are now next to bottom after a run of poor results.

Before the sequence of defeats, they had the chance to go top but have nosedived.

They will need to rediscover their early-season form quickly as tomorrow they travel to champions Distington who have found their mojo again after early-season wobbles.

It’s the only game scheduled for the Men’s League but there are three in the Iggesund Cumberland League.

Leaders Cockermouth Titans have opened-up a significant gap now at the top and tomorrow travel to Lowca who are currently next-to-bottom.

Egremont Rangers are four points behind but they do have a game in hand. They will expect to return with a win when they travel to bottom side Broughton Red Rose.

Aspatria are also four points behind the leaders, but without a game in hand, and they have a tougher task tomorrow at Flimby.
