As the build-up continues for the new amateur season in Cumbria, more friendlies have been played.

In a bid to be fit and firing for the season’s launch on March 4, some clubs have been in action twice.

Looking to emulate last year’s start, but develop it further this time, Flimby Vikings have rattled up a second win.

They took on a Cockermouth side who are making a welcome return to the Iggesund Cumberland ARL this season.

It finished 34-8 to Flimby with tries from Luke Baker, Darren Pape, Ethan Williams, Kieran Burridge, Callum Moffat and Terry McDowell. Moffat converted four while Luke Eve also landed one.

Matthew Jackson and Luke Armstrong scored the tries for Cockermouth.

Glasson Rangers had been beaten by Flimby a week earlier but they were successful in a follow-up game, beating Aspatria 20-0.

The Glasson tries were scored by Shaun Mumberson, Mathew Burns, Karl Armstrong and Chris Thomlinson with two conversions by Tom Dixon.

It will be a bit tougher on Saturday when Glasson face Ellenborough in a tasty local derby, brought forward from the opening day of March 4.

They will be contesting a first round tie in the BARLA Cumbria Cup with Ellenborough having home advantage.

Broughton Red Rose are fancied to put in an improved show this season and they showed up well for a long time in their game with Men’s League side Hensingham.

It eventually finished 28-14 with the Hensingham tries coming from Finn Barwise, Todd Woods, Ben Rogerson, Sean Dixon and Chris Dodd. Ellis Postlethwaite put over four conversions.

Seaton took a side to play Millom from the National Conference League, giving it a good shot before going down 32-22.

Miguel Blanco Charters scored two tries for Seaton and was followed over by Liam Williamson and Connor McCrickard. Blanco Charters completed a good personal game by adding three conversions.
