The club now proudly boasts the RFU Seal of Approval, the Seal of Approval for Mini and Youth Rugby and the ClubMark (Sport England) award.

Last night, plaques marking the achievements in the club’s administration of rugby were unveiled in the clubhouse by Neil Hodgkinson, editorial director of Cumbrian Newspapers.

Neil said: “As headlines scream about knife crime and drugs, about lazy and obese kids and youngsters trapped in a world of violent computer games, you offer a healthy, life-changing alternative.

“And as playing fields are sold off and many schools lose interest in sport, you provide an essential service in helping bring up our kids the right way.

“These awards centre on just what a good club Carlisle is.”

Liam Nicholls, RFU rugby development officer for Cumbria, told the News & Star: “These are very prestigious and highly sought-after awards. Not many clubs across the country yet have them and Carlisle is one that is leading the way in providing a child-friendly, safe environment.”
