Wildcat four star in win

FOUR members of West Cumbria Wildcats under-16s have been in action at Headingley to showcase girls’ rugby league.

Yasmine Wilson, Morgan Walker-Taylor, Sarah Edgar and Sophie Martin were selected to represent the North West Counties against Yorkshire, as a curtain-raiser to the Carnegie Nines competition last Wednesday.

And they won 12-8, including a try from back Edgar.

The girls, who are all enjoying a great season with their club, were picked after the county trials in July.

Since then, they have been preparing for a two-match series against Yorkshire, the first of which takes place this Saturday at Chorley, but the opportunity came up to showcase the game at Headingley and they jumped at the chance.

The Wildcats’ under-16 side are halfway through their league season and are riding high at the top of the North West League.

And they have high hopes to be crowned national champions as the winners go forward to a champion of champions event to go up against the victors of the Yorkshire League.
