Workington Reds boss aiming to re-sign Vipond and Reed
Last updated at 12:19, Wednesday, 22 July 2009
Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson will be putting some of his star names through their paces tonight against Whitehaven Amateurs.
As the big kick-off gets closer Edmondson, who has already landed Matt Henney, Stephen Hindmarch, Tony Caig and Aaron Taylor, will be running the rule over Shaun Vipond and Michael Reed again tonight.
Both players are without a club and Edmondson hopes his powers of persuasion will see them re-sign for the Borough Park club this season.
Reed left Penrith earlier this summer and has trained with Gretna, while Vipond has been without a club since leaving Sweden in May.
Vipond has other options open to him but Edmondson said he will be doing his all to get them both signed up.
He said: “We know all about Shaun and Michael. They are quality players that would add a lot to any team in this division.
“Michael goes away at the end of the week so I will be speaking to him after the Whitehaven game. He is someone who could score us a lot of goals and be something extra up front.
“Shaun has other options available to him right now so he has to work out what he wants to gain.
“The door is open for him to come back. He did well against Penrith and we would like to get him back at the club. He showed how good he can be last season and we could do with him being on top form for us again this time round.”
Reds travel to Whitehaven’s Focus Scaffolding Sports Arena for a 7.30pm kick off.
Stephen Hindmarch will miss the trip with a groin injury but Reds will be putting out a strong side with some reserve team players included in the squad.
