Workington Reds’ pre-season build-up hampered

Workington Reds’ pre-season plans have been hampered with Scottish side Annan Athletic pulling the plug on their annual tournament.
The Borough Park club were expecting to take part in the four-team competition next month but Annan cancelled after Partick Thistle withdrew due to their involvement in the Co-Operative Insurance Cup.
Reds netted nearly £1,000 to go towards building a new stand by auctioning off last season’s shirts.
Home and away shirts for each individual member of the squad went on sale by auction and the total raised was £974.
Jonny Wright’s home and away tops fetched the highest total while Phil McLuckie’s number seven home jersey received the largest bid.
Commercial manager Les Smallwood said: “That was a great effort but is just one of a number of fund-raisers we have bubbling away. News of other ventures will be announced shortly.”
