Workington Reds get dream result after nightmare journey

WORKINGTON Reds ended their Boston United hoodoo – despite a nine-hour coach nightmare that ended at 2.30am.
A nightmare bus journey from west Cumbria to Lincolnshire took meant the team didn’t arrive at their hotel until 2.30am on Saturday morning.
The team coach broke down numerous times, including a two-hour halt in Derbyshire.
Despite the issues, Darren Edmondson’s men beat Boston 3-1 in the Blue Square Bet North for the first time in 11 attempts.
Gareth Arnison scored twice, with Jonny Wright also netting.
Both linked well with new boy Jordan Connerton, who made his first Reds appearance of the season.
Edmondson said: “I know it sounds daft, but the team that won took their chances.
“We rode our luck. Aaran Taylor made two great saves, and the lads who can score goals did just that.
“We knew if we continued to create chances then the goals would come.
“To win is very pleasing after the debacle of our journey down to Boston.
“When things like that happen, it galvanises a team, we were strong throughout. After playing three strong teams, we bounced back, and pulled together.”
Edmondson praised his young loan players, in particularly defender James Bolton, who starred alongside Kyle May.
He said: “James’ reading of the game for someone so young is good. He was solid throughout.”
