Reds look to keep Costa cool

Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson has warned fans not to pile the pressure on Portuguese prodigy Andre da Costa.
The loan star has amazed since joining from League Two side Macclesfield, but Edmondson does not want to heap pressure on the winger. Da Costa’s quick feet earned a penalty which Gareth Arnison converted to help Workington get back to winning ways at Boston.
Reds are at home to perennial strugglers Vauxhall Motors tonight (7.45pm ko).
Borough Park has been an unhappy stomping ground for the Motormen, who have not won in west Cumbria since 2006. Workington did the double over Carl Macauley’s men last year, and Edmondson is aiming for more success this year.
He said: “Andre is still learning the game, which at this level, is really difficult.
“He’s been thrust into the deep end with games against Guiseley and Boston and that is tough for anyone.
“Andre has got stacks of ability, but he needs to learn when to pressure defenders, and when to drop off, but that’s why he’s with us.
“If he wasn’t learning then he wouldn’t be here.
“We’re lucky to have Andre, and if we can get the best out of him and win points on the back of his ability then that is great.”
Fellow Macclesfield loanee James Bolton won plaudits for his assured performance against Boston, and he will continue to deputise in the absence of Lee Andrews and Dan Wordsworth. Either Will Vaulks, on loan from Tranmere Rovers, or Carlisle United’s Josh Todd will play in the middle of the park.
