Jordan Connerton snubs Workington Reds for home club Lancaster

Last season’s saviour Jordan Connerton has snubbed a move back to Workington Reds in favour of a deal with home-town club Lancaster City.
The striker has not returned any of boss Darren Edmondson’s calls, and the 40-year-old has accepted defeat in the chase for the lively front man.
Connerton was expected to play for Workington during pre-season, but did not show up, and has since gone on to train with the Dolly Blues.
The former Crewe Alexandra man scored the goal that guaranteed Workington’s place in the Blue Square Bet North when he headed home against Worcester on the final day.
Disappointed Edmondson has already turned his attention to other options, and said signing a striker was near the top of his target list.
He said: “I spoke to Jordan and hoped he would play against Queen of the South, but he decided to stay with Lancaster.
“It’s his decision and we move on. We need to find a striker, and I’ve already been scouting players who could come in.”
Captain David Hewson and Lee Andrews remain as Reds’ long-term absentees, and Edmondson is actively searching for a midfielder and defender to come in during their leave.
He said: “Top of the list is finding a midfielder and defender for cover.
“Losing Lee for four months is difficult, and we don’t know how long David will be out.
“It’s important we move quickly and I’m speaking to players all the time, so things should start happening.”
