Da Costa holds the key to Reds’ Boston prospects

CONFIDENT Darren Edmondson believes Workington Reds can break their Boston hoodoo this afternoon.
The west Cumbrians have never won at York Street in four visits, but the 40-year-old has faith in his young squad.
Workington’s record against Boston makes for some dismal reading with just one win, a 1-0 victory in the FA Cup five years ago, in eight contests.
But with loan star Andre da Costa in the Reds ranks, Edmondson believes his fortunes may change when the sides kick off at 3pm.
He said: “After the three matches we’ve just endured, we have nothing to fear going to Boston.
“I am confident we can pick up points, despite our poor record against them.
“I have scouted Boston, have reports about them, and know it won’t be easy. Jason Lee sets his sides up to be solid, and not leak goals.
“But in players like Andre da Costa, Phil McLuckie and Gareth Arnison we have players who can cause their defenders a lot of problems.
“I was delighted with Andre’s performance against Guiseley. He showed what a class act he is, and is a player that can terrorise defenders.”
Reds have lost their last three matches, scoring just once against Chester, Halifax and Guiseley.
Edmondson admitted not scoring was a problem, but had confidence in his strikers’ ability.
“Jonny and Gareth have already scored goals this season,” he said.
“But we must be more clinical. Not scoring is a problem, and it’s not just a striker issue.
“We have missed headers from set pieces and midfielders breaking into the box. It’s an issue we are working on as a team, but I believe we will come good.
“There will be a game when everything clicks, and then someone is in for a beating.”
