On-loan midfielder Shaun Vipond could soon make his spell at Workington Reds permanent.

Boss Darren Edmondson has been discussing the possibility of making Vipond’s deal full-time with Carlisle’s caretaker boss Greg Abbott.

The deal is very much in the early days and no decision is likely to be made until next week.

Edmondson said: “I have spoken with Shaun and he’s happy down here. His game has come on leaps and bounds and we would like to see if it is possible for us to keep him.

“I have spoken to Greg (Abbott) but nothing is definitely going to happen.

“Shaun’s two-month loan with us comes to an end after the weekend and next week we will see if it possible to bring him in.”

Vipond, above, has made 13 starts in his stint at Borough Park and has become a fan favourite with his work-rate and eye for goal.

The 19-year-old plays his last game for Workington this weekend, away at Hyde United, if Edmondson can’t broker a deal.

Edmondson, who attended Carlisle United’s reserve game earlier in the week, said he had gone to see a couple of Carlisle’s emerging talents but said he it is unlikely any will be moving to Workington in the near future.

He said: “I went up to watch the game but it was a star-studded line-up.

“I know there are some talented players coming through but it is unlikely I will be able to bring any in until the youth team has been knocked out of the FA Cup.”
