Richardson returns to saddle after accident and wins class at Nord Vue

Two years after a serious riding accident that threatened to keep her out of the saddle forever, Denise Richardson made her return to eventing at the weekend and promptly won her class.

Denise partnered four-year-old debut performer Bordergrove Mexico in the BE80(T) section and says she loved every minute of the event, which was held at the Eden Valley course at Nord Vue, near Armathwaite.

It had been organised and put on in record time by Douglas and Lucinda Weymouth with their trusty band of volunteers and greatly appreciated after so many fixtures were felled by this year’s atrocious weather.

Also making their first eventing appearance together, Janine Wright and Brigadier Lady were just a fraction behind Denise, with cross-country time faults marring an otherwise clean sheet. Elizabeth Butterworth and Skyline Ranger came fifth.

Jessica Clark, 13, put in an excellent performance on her first BE outing with former racehorse Brian James to take fourth in the Pony Club section, clear after dressage. Sophie Hope Weedall and Original Robbie were one place behind in fifth and Robyn Bowness on Abbey General in sixth.

Alison Frary and My Lady Foxtrot tied for first in the BE90 with Hayley Graves and Apache Mr Todd, and Alison also came third with Jalousie Dream.

Amy Dixon topped her section with Tuesday Cruising with Sam Magennis and Chester XX third, and there were seventh places for Joanne Rome and Banaher, Helen Ostle and Guilty Secret and Melanie Dixon with Forest Bay. Ishbel Lowther took seventh in the PC section with Made of Gold.

Sarah Brockbank and Riversleigh were fourth in the BE100, Sam Magennis and Vattrick were third in the Open section.

Ian Stark was sixth on Detective and Sarah Smith ninth on Tradesman.

The Moniaive Show proved rich pickings for Jackie Williamson and Brian Gibson, their gorgeous cob stallion The Mane Man won the Over-four year old Coloured Class, then won the Overall Coloured Horse Championship, both in-hand and ridden.

Their ROR horse Dippers Song won his riding class then took Reserve Riding Horse. And to top off a great day, Top Man, a three year coloured horse they’re producing for owner Dicky Dixon and appearing at his first ever show, won the In-hand Hunter class for one, two and three-year-olds, then took Reserve In-Hand Hunter and Best Young Hunter, and came second in the three year old and under coloured horse.

Cumbrian competitors are making their mark at the Trailblazers Championships this week. Joanne Fisher and Bindie took Reserve in the Part-Welsh section, while Shelby Brooke saw her two year old Tresaison Tribaldance take a second, three fourths and two fifths in youngstock and in-hand classes.

Sisters Sophie and Lucy Jones have also had a fantastic time, winning three Class Championships, a Ring Supreme Championship, and a Ring Reserve Supreme Championship, then Sophie got Reserve Overall Supreme of the whole show out of thirty In Hand and Ridden.

In the showjumping, Paula Eilbeck won the 90cms and came second in the 85cms Championships with Jethro, while Tom Rome took the honours in the 1.05 and was First Reserve.

Joanna Kennell had a fourth and fifth with Autumn Cruise, and Melissa Foggin had a second and ninth with Flash, while Shona Rhodes won the 75cms consolation class with Toby Junior.

Jenni Graham and Buster took sixth in the 95cm Championship.
