New personal best salmon for Watson

Howard Watson not only landed his first-ever Eden salmon at Warwick Hall but his new personal best was the 17th salmon of 20lb or more to be reported from the River Eden this season.
Howard’s salmon caught spinning in the Rushes was estimated to weigh 22lb before being returned to the river.
Raymond Chesworth also enjoyed some sport at Warwick Hall on Tuesday landing a 6 pounder in Jackies on a spinner. David Bamford caught an 11 pounder in the Gravel Bed on a Flying C on Monday.
On the Yorkshire Fly Fishers water prior to the floods Bob Wyley landed a 17, a 9 and a 7 pounder; all sea liced and all caught at the Otter Stone. Roger Marvin landed a brace; 8 and 10lb at the Otter Stone before fishing the Doctors Flat at Eden Brows the following day and landing a 16 pounder.
Tom Hird also landed a brace; a 14 pounder at Island Foot and a 10 pounder at the Oak Tree.
The YFF water on the upper Eden produced one salmon on Monday and three to 16lb on Tuesday.
On the Low House water near Armathwaite last Thursday, Paul Marsden fished a Flying C in Leastrum and caught a 15 pounder. The same day Roger Graves also used a Flying C to good effect landing a 10 pounder in Nichol Hole.
Monday at Low House saw John McClay fish a Toby through the Tail of Bransty and land a 14 pounder. On Tuesday Low House Keeper Philip Taylor caught a 9 pounder that was covered in sea lice, Philip caught his salmon on a Flying C fished in Nichol Hole.
Two weeks ago Alan Sefton suffered the disappointment of loosing his first ever salmon after playing the fish for 15 minutes. But it all came good for Alan on Wednesday when fishing Robsons with a Flying C he hooked and landed an 8 pounder.
On Monday, Hugh Burleigh landed a 12lb salmon on the fly whilst fishing a Middle Eden tributary.
Despite the level of Whins pond rising around four or five inches due to the recent rains, the water remains warm and there have been several specimen tench landed to carp tactics and pleasure anglers have been catching 20lb plus mixed bags in an evening using feeder tactics.
One angler, on Sunday evening, had a net well in excess of 30lb of bream to almost 6lb, tench and some quality roach to a pound all on pellet and mini boilie using the method feeder.
But Tuesday evening’s King of Whins match night Whins pond did not live up to expectations.
Many anglers were fishless, even those who targeted the small fish struggled to keep them coming with any regularity.
The winner came from the barrier peg; Dave Wardman drew peg 32, caught one good bream, a tench and a few silver fish for 13lb 8oz. He switched from cage feeder to pole and found the fish using combinations of maggot, worm and corn.
Mike Clusker drew peg 6 but went without a fish for the first hour and a half eventually landing three bream for 11lb 9oz using a mini boilie and method feeder.
Jeff Whittle used the pole on peg 15 to winkle out a bream, a tench and some smaller fish for 10lb 2oz. Tony Whear fishing the whip landed 8lb 3oz of small roach for fourth while Paul Price maintained his top spot in the league with 5lb 6oz and Steve Howes found a tench and a chub for 4lb 13oz and sixth spot.
On Sunday Jeff Whittle will host a float only match at Whins, the draw is at 8am.
The Broom match series round three took place on Sunday on both Queensberry Lake and Bruces Acres at the Annan fishery, with Carlisle anglers dominating the field.
On Queensberry lake Carlisle’s Peter Brown finished first with 32lb 8oz of ide, roach and one carp. In second place was Scott Bond of Whitehaven with 30lb of ide, carp and chub.
On Bruces Acre Carlisle tackle dealer Peter Wilson netted 33lb 8oz of ide, roach and three small carp. In second place Myles Watt of Annan landed a 16lb bag of carp.
The overall winner on the day was Peter Wilson Carlisle and both Peter Brown and Peter Wilson qualify for the Broom match series A final fished in September, with a guaranteed £1,000 first prize.
At New Mills fishery near Brampton this week Mike McNeil landed a 9½lb rainbow and his son; trying fly- fishing for the first time caught an 8lb rainbow, both were caught on a lead headed Cats Whisker.
New Mills have also announced the start of a brand new tagged fish competition. It’s £1 to enter and the winner takes the pot.
A 9lb brown trout has been tagged, part of a stocking of 23 big Brown Trout introduced to the lake this week.
