Workington's Vets Club are the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League Division Two champions.

In a remarkable turnaround of results, the Vets' 6-0 victory over Seaton Legion - coupled with a 4-2 loss for last week's leaders Flimby Social against Workington Cons - meant that even though the two sides were tied on 67 points (and Flimby have no fixture next week), Vets’ better draw ratio was enough for the Workington side to take the title.

No one could have predicted Vets’ whitewash but, with their best result of the season, the Division Two side assured promotion and almost certainly sent Division One opponents, Seaton Legion, down to the second tier.

The away victory produced a series of solid performances and none more than Stuart Ryan’s fifth frame win over Seaton’s Mark Tatton. This victory, however, was rounded off superbly as Vets’ stalwart Steve Garroway coolly cued a break of 36 in the final frame of the match to take his side to the Division Two title.

Workington Cons’ win nevertheless means that, with a draw between Station Road B and Workington Golf Club, a 3-3 or better in their last game against second-placed Station B would be enough for them to take the Division One title.

Cons didn’t have it all their own way as, in trailing 2-1, the pressure was well and truly on.

A fortunate win for Cons’ Stuart Shepherd in the fourth, followed by breaks of 30 and 32 from team-mate Richard McCarthy quickly took the Division One side 3-2 up. This momentum was then carried through magnificently with Julian Plaza rounding off the match with a solid win over Flimby’s Kevin Kirkham.

Station Road B’s and Workington Golf Club's game was the most closely contested match of the week.

With never more than one frame between the two Division One rivals, the toe-to-toe encounter was a real heavyweight battle. Highest break of the match came from the Golf Club’s Rob Sim with 48 as the draw means Sim’s side finish third.

Division Two's United Club trounced fellow divisional opponents Sun Inn 5-1.

With the United Club already assured of third place, they will now face Flimby in next week’s top 4 play-offs. The Sun Inn need their first win of the season next week against Seaton Legion to dodge the wooden spoon.

Coming back from 3-1 down, Maryport Social carved out a 3-3 home draw against Station Road A to guarantee their Division One top 4 play-off spot. Station Road A must now beat Seaton Legion’s score next week to avoid the drop.
