The second week of the West Cumbria Summer Snooker campaign was completed recently with Workington’s Dave Chapman leading the way with his second successive victory.

He was challenged by United Club colleague Brain Kendall who put up a gallant effort in his pursuit of his first ever league win.

Chapman narrowly took the opening frame followed with a more comfortable second for a 2-0 lead.

However, the third was forced all the way to a black-ball finish in favour of Chapman.

A close fourth also went the way of Chapman before the "never-say-die" approach of Kendall earned him the final frame for a 4-1 reversal.

Chapman holds a slender one point lead over his rivals.

In what was the key tie of the week in the Second Division, Seaton’s Paul Smith played host to the most recent Division Two champion Clive Lister of Workington.

Smith took a competitive first frame while Lister replied with a break of 40 to pull the match back level.

Smith then regained the lead in similar fashion to the opening frame before, once again, Lister dispatched a frame-winning break of 40 to tie the match for a second time.

Smith was able to dig deepest in the final frame to earn a well-fought 3-2 victory and second place. Lister stands in third just three points behind the leader.

Workington’s Dave Holland made amends for last week’s defeat with a 5-0 whitewash of Geoff Smith also of Workington, he now sits in fourth place.

In Division One, the only fixture played saw Maryport’s Mike Park open the defence of his title with a 4-1 victory over Mark Tunstall of Workington.

After Tunstall’s convincing 5-0 victory last week, the tables were turned as Park opened an unassailable 3-0 lead with the help of a 31 break in the second frame.

Tunstall finally put up resistance to take a competitive fourth with Park taking the final frame on the black.

Despite the defeat, Tunstall now goes top with Park in third place.

Meanwhile, this week sees the opening group round-robin ties played in the Gray’s Luxury Ice-cream Trophy: Group A - Park v Chapman. Group B - Mitchelhill v Kendall. Group C - Holland v Lister. Group D - P. Smith v Banton.
