Workington Cons have won the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League Division One title, comfortably beating Station Road B in the last game of the season.

In their match against second-placed Station Road B, the top-tier title came down to a solitary battle between the two powerhouse sides, with the Cons' team coming out on top 5-1 winners.

Leading the table by a point going into the final game, a 3-3 scoreline or better was enough for the Cons outfit and they started superbly against last season’s champions, racing into a 2-0 lead with wins from Richard McCarthy and Mike Park.

Now needing to win all their remaining games, Station B’s Shaun Ayre fought valiantly to keep his team in it, but it was two-time county champion Alan Moore who wrapped the title up for the Cons side with a confident victory.

The Cons side then kicked on further, winning two of the last three frames and inflicting a first defeat of the season on the Station Road B team in what has been a fascinating campaign.

Workington Golf Club finished third in Division One with a 3-3 draw against fellow divisional opponents Maryport Social who incidentally finish fourth.

The highest break of the match came from the Golf Club’s Rob Sim with 60, who also took the Division One aggregate breaks trophy with a total of 605.

Sim’s victory also meant he secured the leading player award with 19 wins out of 20, along with the highest break which he made earlier in the season with an excellent contribution of 108.

The only other break in the match came from the Golf Club’s Mark Brasted with 31.

After claiming the Division Two title last week, Workington’s Vets Club finished off their season nicely with a 6-0 win over Workington Legion.

The highest break of the match went to Vets captain Kevin Basnett with 47 who, like Sim in Division One, took Division Two’s highest aggregate breaks (821), leading player (19 wins out of 20) and highest break (121). Legion’s defeat left them with the undesirable honour of wooden spoon holders.

Even though Division Two’s United Club lost 5-1 to Division One’s Station Road A, they still held on to third place in the table.

Station A’s win ensured they finished fifth in the table.

Finally, Sun Inn’s first win of the season assured them of a Division Two play-off place as they defeated Seaton Legion 6-0. The result also sees Seaton finish bottom of Division One.
