Paul Midgley may need to get the passport of Tarboosh at the ready after he gained his third win of the season in the Watch Racing UK on Sky 432 Handicap at Carlisle Racecourse on Wednesday.

Having seen veteran sprinter Desert Law take the opening race at York, the Westow handler completed an across-the-card double after the four-year-old obliged by a nose in a five-furlong contest to add to his previous wins this campaign at Beverley and Ripon.

Midgley said of the 8-1 winner: “He has always worked like a really good horse at home. It wasn’t until we tweaked his wind that he actually started doing it on the course.

“To be fair, he travelled well today and put up a good battle and got lucky in the photo finish. I would have been disappointed if he hadn’t won today.

“I think he can progress further, but a must for him is the ground as he definitely wants it on the easier side of good.

“When he won at Beverley, I had been thinking of going for the Joe McGrath Handicap on September 24 which is a 50,000 Euro pot at Naas.

“I am probably still thinking about that. It is just whether we take in the David Chapman race at Ripon early on in September first.”

Karl Burke could revise plans for Highest Rank (3-1) after he initiated the opening leg of a double for the trainer and winning jockey Clifford Lee when getting up by a neck in division one of the EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes.

Burke said: “I thought Highest Rank would be more of a nursery project, but he has gone out and won his maiden first time out.

“He has improved a lot in the last few weeks, but I am not sure it was the greatest standard he beat. We will probably take him into another novice race now and go from there.”

Plenty of praise was showered on 3lb claimer Lee by the Leyburn handler after Born To Boom (12-1) completed their brace when grinding out victory by a head in the Watch Racing UK On The Go Handicap.

Burke added: “He has been disappointing and, even watching that, it was as much as Clifford winning the race rather than the horse.

“He always looked to be just thinking about it, but Clifford persevered. The bump late on probably helped him as it propelled him forward. Hopefully, that will give him a bit of confidence.”

Yes You (9-4) picked up the winning thread again having been halted in his hat-trick bid last time out to get Iain Jardine on the score-sheet after holding on by a neck in the Tommy Johnstone 65th Birthday Handicap.

Group-race glory may have eluded Mark Johnston at York but Renfrew Street (7-2) ensured he was on target at the Cumbrian track when powering to a two-and-a-half-length success in the Watch Racing UK On Talk Talk TV Handicap.

Canford’s Joy (16-1) put his previous experience to good use to take division two of the six-furlong maiden by half a length for trainer Ann Duffield, while the Kevin Ryan-trained Savannah Moon (7-1) landed the Watch Racing UK On Virgin 536 Handicap by a neck.
