Talented young Cumbrian squash star Adam Goad has been picked to represent England.

Adam, who plays for Carlisle Squash Club, is one of five players to have been selected to play for England's Under-15 team in the Five Nations tournament.

The best young prospects from Scotland, Ireland, England and France will all travel to the host nation Wales for the popular annual event this month.

Each country will be represented by an Under-13 team and an Under-15 team, which both will be made up of three boys and two girls.

The tournament gives Under-13s their first experience of representing their country.

And England Squash's head of player development Chris Robertson is a big fan of the competition.

"If it's giving caps to these young players, then it's obviously a good thing," Robertson said to the English squash website.

"That starting point makes it one of the most important tournaments for me.

"We've had a couple of close selections for it and I think that shows there's big interest in it and the players are keen to take part."

Adam, who goes to school at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith, was selected on the back of winning the French Junior Open last month in Lille.

He came from 2-0 down to tournament Number One seed and current Number One player in Europe Marek Panacek, from Czechoslovakia, in the Final.

Sam Todd, a two-time US Junior Open and 2016 British Junior Open champion, will spearhead the England Under-15 team, with England the reigning champions in both categories.

Katie Malliff, Lydia Robinson and Sam Osborne-Wylde make up the rest of the Under-15 line-up.

The Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff will host the event from March 31-April 2.

Meanwhile another Carlisle Squash Club young talent, Eve Driver, has been selected to represent Scotland this April.

She will do so at the European team championships in Portugal.
