Workington's Station Road B are the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League 7-a-side Eric McMullen Memorial Trophy handicap champions.

A win for the Division One side saw the first trophy of the season decided in convincing fashion as they trounced former champions Flimby Social 4-0.

The match begun with Flimby’s Mike Walker (+24 handicap) taking a healthy lead against Station B's Simon Frazer (+11) and, with just the last red remaining, the Social cueist stood 27 points to the good.

Not often do you see a turning point so early in a match but, with Frazer clearing with 34 to pip Walker on the black (60-53), the Flimby side were visibly shaken.

Frame two kicked into life as Station B's Peter O’Hagan (Scr) made a break of 50 to lead Flimby Captain Geoff Banton (+24) by 19 with the colours left.

This glimmer of hope, however, soon evaporated as O'Hagan stepped up again and in fine form he cleared with 27 to win 50-96.

Even though Flimby’s Sal Cakmak (+30) fought admirably in the next, a 2-0 scoreline soon became 3-0 as he could find nothing to stop Shaun Ayre (+10) delivering a 64-52 frame victory.

In what ended up being the final frame of the match, an early lead for Flimby’s Steve Edmondson (+30) looked like being decisive but, as Station B's Alan McLeod (+11) pulled back with a break of 23, all the pressure was on the Flimby cueist.

A small safety exchange ensued, however, with McLeod picking off the balls he required a 79-53 frame, match and title victory was assured.

Thanks to the United Club for holding the final but special thanks to Andrew McMullen for presenting the trophy in his dad's memory.
